Explainer
Agentic commerce, in plain words.
Instead of a person clicking through shops, an AI agent does the searching, comparing and buying, within the limits the person sets. The shopper still decides; the agent does the legwork.
What changes for the shopper
A person says what they need ("a USB-C charger that can power my laptop and phone, under $50") and the agent comes back with a short list and the facts behind it. With permission, it completes the purchase.
The human stays in charge of the important decisions: which agent to trust, how much it may spend and which purchases need a final yes.
What changes for the store
The store gets a second kind of visitor. An agent does not admire photography. It reads data: exact names, prices, currencies, stock status and how to check out.
A store that publishes clean, current, machine-readable facts can be found, understood and chosen. One that hides them in pictures or scripts is easy for an agent to skip.
What a store must provide
Four things every agent needs
To be found
Stable addresses for every product, a store page that links to them, a sitemap and a plain summary such as llms.txt.
To be understood
Structured product data in a shared vocabulary. schema.org Product and Offer is the one search engines and AI systems already read.
To be trusted
Facts that match what a person sees on the page, prices with a validity date, and honest stock information.
To be paid
A checkout an agent can complete safely, through a payment provider that can tell an authorised purchase from an unauthorised one.
The wider industry
Open efforts shaping how agents buy
Several open protocols and network programmes appeared in 2024 and 2025 to give agents a standard way to talk to tools, merchants and payment systems. They are listed here for context. This store does not claim to implement them; it provides the groundwork they all rely on: a readable catalog and a real checkout.
| Effort | From | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Model Context Protocol (MCP) | Anthropic, 2024, open source | A standard way for AI assistants to connect to tools and data sources. |
| Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP) | OpenAI and Stripe, 2025, open source | Lets an AI agent and a merchant complete a checkout together, with the merchant keeping its own payment processing. |
| Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) | Google, 2025, open | Uses signed "mandates" to show what a person authorised an agent to buy. |
| Visa Intelligent Commerce and Mastercard Agent Pay | Card networks, 2025 | Programmes for card credentials issued to AI agents, so purchases can be recognised and limited. |
| schema.org Product and Offer | schema.org community | The shared vocabulary for product facts that this store publishes on every product page today. |

Where aCOMMERCE Shop stands
The store already publishes what an agent needs to find and understand it, and each product's offer as products are listed. Its cart works and checkout runs up to the payment step. The last piece, the payment gateway, is being connected; once it is, an agent or a person can complete a real order.
